NC School Report Card

Picture

Each year, the Department of Public Instruction assigns every public school in North Carolina a "report card", a tool intended to help families and stakeholders understand how the school is growing and succeeding as well as any areas of need. The School Report Card grade ranges from A to F based on a composite score made of proficiency on standardized testing and student growth from year to year as measured by those same tests. Proficiency makes up 80% of the overall composite score and growth comprises 20%. Like all data, the School Report Card offers one part of a larger picture about a school.

Pioneer Springs Scores:
2024-25 59 (C)
2023-24 60 (C)
2022-23 53 (D)
2021-22 57 (C)
2020-21 No Score due to Covid

Read to Achieve: In accordance with General Statute 115C-218.85, following are the results of the 3rd grade Read to Achieve mandate for the 2024-25 school year: 52.3% of tested students were proficient as measured by BOG performance. 47.6% of students met the requirement through alternate testing.

Graduation Cohort Rate and Targeted Support:
NC high schools are assigned a graduation cohort rate, an equation that considers all the students who entered as ninth graders and, after four years, exited with a diploma. The equation has different designations for students who transfer to other schools, who move out of state, who finish at community colleges and a host of other possibilities, and the result of the equation is represented as a percentage. NC DPI requires the cohort rate to be above 66%; if a school's cohort rate drops below that threshold then it receives targeted support for three years, usually including federal monies to increase access to resources. Pioneer Springs' 24-25 graduation cohort rate was calculated at 56.3%, an erroneous calculation in that is was skewed by the absence of data for 17 students, an extremely unfortunate technical error. What is the practical repercussion? Pioneer Springs will receive targeted support in2026-29 and will use this opportunity to continue to refine our practice. Since cohort rates are calculated for four and five years so, it is expected that the data for those 17 students will be corrected in the five year rate calculated for 25-26.
