In this 3 week campaign we are dedicating our efforts to paying it forward and extending our reach, to connecting with one another, moving our bodies and giving to those in need. We will be celebrating our traditional Sandwich Swap by making sandwiches and donating food to those in need. We will be running our annual Reach for the Trees virtually with people all over the world and sharing our proceeds. We will be donating educational supplies, warm hats, and so much more!
Join us in this celebration culminating with a virtual 5k by December 5th!

The Sandwich Swap
our Sandwich Swap traditionThe Sandwich swap is traditionally held in the days before Thanksgiving to bring our community together. We share food and traditions from our families with the Pioneer Springs Community.
The Sandwich Swap book by Queen Rania Al Abdulah is read by our students each year. It is a story of two friends who find that differences can be good once they are understood. The good friends each eat a sandwich that is special to them but looks strange to the other. False assumptions and hurt feelings eventually come between them and threatens their friendship. When they finally agree to try each other’s sandwich they discover that they were wrong about their first impression. This Sandwich Swap video is compliments of our incredible 2017 6th grade students and insightful and thoughtful staff!! Many thanks to our most amazing founding teacher and narrator, Mary Mix. It was Mary Mix who brought this fall feast/sandwich swap to us in those first few months of our creation. We still stand strong in embracing and celebrating our differences at Pioneer Springs! |
Sandwich Swap 2020: PAYING IT FORWARDThis year we are partnering with A Roof Above to provide sandwiches and bagged lunches to those in need. The week of November 16-20 you are invited to make sandwiches and deliver them to school to be donated.
We are also partnering with FeedNC to provide non-perishable food items for their pantry. Those donations may be made at school from 9-10am each day from November 16-20. Use the buttons below to learn more about the mission of A Roof Above, FeedNC, to sign up to make sandwiches and to read the preparation guidelines. |
REACH FOR THE TREES RUN
Each year at PSCS we host several fundraisers that bring the community together while raising essential funds. We keep our events fun, meaningful and in line with our mission. Reach for the Trees is one of our amazing traditions/fundraisers. It goes without saying, these last months have changed the way we all live, love, work and connect. As a GROWING and THRIVING charter school in a pandemic, it is still necessary for us to fundraise, but we aren’t stopping there. This year we are donating 20% of the money we raise to three amazing local charities that are doing the work of serving our community: FeedNC, A Roof Above and Classroom Central.
Monday, November 16th begins our 8th annual Reach for the Trees/Rooted in Community, FULLy FOCUSED FALL Campaign. This is a phenomenal journey of connecting our Pioneer Community, with the greater community. We are encouraging our families and staff as well as their neighbors, family and friends to finish a 5K in these 3 weeks. Getting our bodies moving and getting our nature fix, is how we see finishing 2020 and bringing us back to Pioneer basics of being a true Community School. While we normally would gather on campus, DJ Mick starting us off with Eye of the Tiger, hundreds of bibs on sweatshirts, cold noses, posters galore along the trail.. this year we ask you to do your 5K (3.1 miles) your way (hike, walk your dog, paddle, run, bike, you name it) between Monday, November 16th and Saturday, December 5th at noon. That's 3 weeks to get out there and do your mind and body some good. If you prefer to do your 5K with a community and all at once we will offer an opportunity for a virtual 5K community at 10am on Saturday, December 5th. You just log into the Strava app (there is currently a 30 day free trial) and we can all set out at the same time, wherever we are and connect as a community using this app.
More details to come when registration opens!

Plain textured yarn, not furry, thick-and-thin, or other “fancy” textures. Lighter colors make it easier to see the stitches. -One pair knitting needles US size 10.5 (6.5mm). Create simple classroom supplies1 in 2 students in our local area live in poverty and we have the opportunity to help level the playing field and contribute in a meaningful way by creating flashcards and book marks for students in need. We are partnering with Classroom Central, a local organization based in Charlotte. Their central mission is to equip students in need to effectively learn by distributing free school supplies to their teachers. This is a great activity to do with kids of all ages and the only real requirement is that the cards are legible! Click on the link for more details and contact volunteers@pioneersprings.org with questions!
A bin will be available at school to drop off flash cards and bookmarks at your convenience. |
