Coming back together safely
Click here if you are in need of before or after school care. |
Families returning to campus on March 15th should note that all PSCS students need a refillable, labeled water bottle, a pair of rain boots, a change of clothing in a labeled Ziplock and need to bring a snack and lunch each day. Please see communications from your teachers on what supplies may be needed for the return to campus. |
On campus options are right around the corner and the staff is buzzing in preparations toward making this a successful transition on March 15th! As part of that process, teachers will reach out to families in their upcoming newsletters to determine in which program, on-campus or distance learning, your student will be participating at that time. Please fill out your form ASAP. This deadline is important, as we need final numbers to plan accordingly. See below for an overview of the choices organized by age, K-5/ elementary and 6-9/ upper school. Details on carpool will be sent directly to participating families.
Kindergarten-5th Grades
K-5 On-Campus Learning:
• Students will attend school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays from 8:30 until 2:30pm.
• Students will be served by their assigned lead teacher and associate teacher.
• Students will sit at individual desks that will likely be closer than 6 feet (depends on headcount) and will follow all safety protocols, including wearing masks, throughout the day.
• Families will follow the same health screening protocol as our learning pods upon arrival to campus (don’t worry..it is quick and easy). See the health screening link for details.
• Students will start the day in morning circles and will recite the Pledge and I Am creed as is the routine practice. Why tell you this? Because by hosting these Pioneer routines and traditions we help our classroom communities thrive by building connections and honoring each other..every day!
• Teachers will reserve the first weeks upon return to create community, establish routines, and review student expectations. We are committed to treating this return to campus similar to the start of the school-year!
• Students will have multiple mask breaks throughout the day and will enjoy both snack and lunch outside when weather permits. Students should dress to play/be outside and bring a change of clothing! Don't forget the boots!
• Current restrictions on rotating personnel or cohorts require that students continue to receive Connect and most EC content in a virtual format at this time.
• While shared play spaces are restricted under current state guidelines at this time, classes will take every opportunity to use the many outdoor spaces on campus for both instructional settings and social time. It is with purpose that our newer outdoor features will allow our students and community to gather in circles facing one another.
• Wednesdays will remain asynchronous instructional days during which teachers will be available via their regular office hours.
K-5 Distance Learning:
• Because teachers will now be serving students directly in their classrooms, distance learning will look slightly different than the Pioneer HOME program that preceded it.
• Teachers will continue to load assignments to the Google classroom for student access.
• Teachers will include directions for completion and links to resources; teachers will not be able to record supplementary videos for assignments going forward.
• A team of staff members have been assigned as distance learning facilitators and will serve as liaisons for this program. They will provide office hours and other content support for students to complete assignments.
• Facilitators will create weekly opportunities for social engagement for distance learning students.
• Attendance will continue to be based on completion of assignments according to the schedule determined by the grade-level teachers.
Middle and High School
Upper School On-Campus Learning:
• 7th and 8th graders will attend on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30 until 2:30pm; 6th and 9th graders will attend on Thursdays and Fridays.
• Students will be grouped with their homeroom teacher from whom they will receive direct instruction. Because of the current restrictions limiting movement among cohorts, students will receive virtual instruction for their other classes on a schedule similar to the virtual schedule they currently follow.
• Students will sit at individual desks separated by a minimum of 6 feet and will follow all safety protocols, including wearing masks, throughout the day.
