Pioneer Springs Community School Social Justice Committee
The PSCS Social Justice Committee, established in August 2020, was created as a subcommittee to the Board of Trustees’ Governance Committee in order to ensure Pioneer Springs Community School (PSCS) is an inclusive space that is fair and safe, and where every individual is valued and treated equally. These values are fundamental to our Non-discrimination Policy which states:
Pioneer Springs Community School is committed to providing an environment that is free from discrimination. PSCS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, disability, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or ethnic origin in administration of its admission policies, educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, employment, or other school-administered programs, granting all students and employees the same rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available at the school.
To supplement this policy, the Social Justice Committee is tasked with offering additional guidance and specific actions to promote diversity within our school culture. To ensure the school’s environment is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, the committee will advise leadership, highlighting underrepresented or underserved populations within our PSCS community, and increase diversity within its instruction and curriculum.
It is the intention of PSCS to model the same diversity as the region we serve; however, PSCS currently has limited racial and socio-economic diversity. The Social Justice Committee will identify factors that may impede access for enrollment by diverse populations, and make recommendations to effectively find solutions to improve access resulting in a more diverse student, staff, and board in the future.
