PACKS
“For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.”― Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book
Each week, Pack groups come together to solve a unique student centered challenge that supports our Expeditionary Learning Goals including natural wonder, building community, developing leadership skills, and allowing students to practice empathy. All staff and students are assigned a Pack group that meet for an hour each week. Each Pack is comprised of a staff facilitator and 10 students from 2 or more grade levels. Packs Missions are given to facilitators in a sealed envelope that is opened and read by the Packs members for the first time at the beginning of each session. How the students accomplish their mission is up to the Pack. Facilitators act as guides but allow the members to lead the challenge. Packs challenges are strategically planned to teach environmental concepts, to allow students to build meaningful relationships with peers and their Pack leader, and to focus on character development. Facilitators and members are charged with ensuring their Pack is a safe place where all students feel they belong and can succeed.
Pack Goals:
The goal of each Pack challenge is to support the core Expeditionary Learning Design Principles. As an Expeditionary Learning school, we utilize the 10 design principles principles that reflect the educational values and beliefs of Kurt Hahn, founder of Outward Bound.
