P.R.I.D.E.
(Purpose, Respect, Interdependence, Dedication, Environmental Awareness)
"Knowledge is like a lion; it cannot be gently embraced." -- South African Proverb
Throughout the elementary years, students participate in small groups called Packs to explore nature and environmental concepts. Upon entering Middle School, students transition from Packs to PRIDE. PRIDE encourages students to make a personal connection and impact on community issues. Each PRIDE is comprised of a small group of 5 students that work together once a week during their Explore class to research, plan, take action, and advocate for an issue that is meaningful to the group. Staff facilitators serve as guides empowering students to take the lead.
Every PRIDE is unique. The students' passions and personalities determine the trail blazed. What drives each PRIDE's passion? What issues facing the community do the students wish to learn more about? What will students do to make a measurable impact? How will the students encourage others to join their cause?
PRIDE Goal:
The goal of PRIDE is to support the core Expeditionary Learning Design Principles. As an Expeditionary Learning school, we utilize the 10 design principles that reflect the educational values and beliefs of Kurt Hahn, founder of Outward Bound.

P.R.I.D.E. 2019
At the end of each trimester PSCS celebrates student work and achievements. During P.R.I.D.E. team meetings (Purpose, Responsibility, Interdependence, Dedication, and Environmental Awareness) 5th-8th grade students have been researching a community issue they feel is important to influence in a positive manner. On December 10 student P.R.I.D.E. teams showcased their hard work by conducting short presentations about the topics they researched. A few of the issues discussed included endangered species, homelessness, bullying, mental health, and animal cruelty. PSCS community members, family, and friends served as “review panelists” during the presentations.
