Espanol at PSCS
As articulated in the school's charter, Spanish is the focal world language at Pioneer Springs. Our Spanish program offers equal instruction in conversational Spanish as well as cultural studies of the Spanish-speaking world. When students are taught to think globally they are connecting with others in the world as they learn about a different language and culture.
Rather than rely on textbooks, instruction is rooted in authentic and spontaneous study inspired by thematic classroom studies and the natural world around us. Consistent with instructional practices throughout the school, language instruction is active, often supported and enhanced through the visual and performing arts, and invites students to collaborate in a project-based learning environment. Students are also taught proficiency through reading and storytelling. In addition, our Spanish instruction follows the NC Standard Course of Study and is taught by Dolly Glass, a native Spanish speaker,as well as a veteran teacher with almost twenty years of teaching history.
