Lydia Thomas MS Exceptional Children Teacher Lydia was born to Southern roots in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her family doubled by the time she was 4 years old, meeting her stepmom and then soon-to-be stepdad. She claims her biggest role in life (so far), started at 7 when she met her first of three little siblings. Her role as a “Big Sister” has only multiplied now that her brother and two sisters are 18, 17 and 13! Lydia grew up in Charlotte with her siblings until she was in high school when she moved to Mooresville, North Carolina to live out her high school years with her dad near picturesque Lake Norman. Lydia graduated as a proud Blue Devil from Mooresville High School and then made her way up to the High Country to receive her Bachelors in Special Education at Appalachian State University. Coming from a more traditional school, yet being a "Boonie" at heart, Lydia knew when she first stepped foot at Pioneer Springs this was where she needed to be. "I love that I am adding to the upbringing of our young community and that I am a part of a family here at PSCS." Contact: [email protected]
Toni Brooks Intermediary and MS Exceptional Children's Teachers Her name is Antoinette, but everyone calls her Toni or Miss Toni. She was born in PA, went to school in MD and PA. She lived in DE and moved to CT where she met her “wonderful husband”, Marc, through a dating service. They have 6 kids, 3 grandkids, 2 dogs and 2 guinea pigs that make for loud raucous gatherings on holidays. They moved to NC in 1991, and “it felt like home as soon as we arrived. The most exciting thing about move was selling our snow blower!” In her spare time, Toni enjoys sewing and this summer has been full of making special masks for the hearing impaired and some quilting. She also has enjoyed time just walking around her neighborhood and sitting in front of her house watching people go by. Toni’s passion for teaching blossomed in high school when she was allowed to leave campus and drive to the local elementary school. There she was assigned to work in a resource room with the special education program. She knew nothing about what this program was about. “I knew after the first day, I wanted a career working with students who needed a little more than the average student. I wanted to be part of that.” In her many years of teaching, Toni says PSCS has been a positive and unique experience. She is impressed with the way our teachers and administrators foster community and relationship with our environment. She visits many classrooms and gets to observe students working in cooperation and encouraging one another's success. “Mostly, I like to watch kids be kids while playing in mud, climbing trees and taking care of the various animals on campus. Though I live in Gastonia, I have found the drive is worth it.” Contact: [email protected]
